OUR SONG IS...

Shannon and I met on Bumble and talked for a few weeks before our first date. The timing wasn’t ideal—he went on a boys’ trip to Portland, and I had a work trip to California—so we had to wait until we were both back. He was the third date I’d been on, and I was so nervous to meet him because I already really liked him just from our conversations. We decided on Nectar Cantina since I’d mentioned my love for tacos on my profile, and I hadn’t been there yet. I actually pulled up and parked right next to him (awkward, but thankfully he didn’t notice). We ended up closing the restaurant down that night.
Before our second date, I realized Shannon lived in my apartment complex. I’d stealthily spotted his bright blue Jeep Renegade with Texas tags parked on the far side of the complex from me—and we've lived in the same place ever since.
Shannon is the string to my kite—he keeps me grounded but is also my biggest cheerleader, always supporting me in everything I do. I love traveling with him, watching him be the best cat dad, and trying all kinds of amazing food together. I like to say that when I started dating again, I was looking for the better version of myself. Shannon hates when I say that, but the truth is, while he’s not “better” than me, we make each other the best versions of ourselves. I can’t wait to marry him.

From Bumble to Forever

Our story started with a swipe—and with Shelby graciously answering what I’ll admit was a very boring first question. After a few weeks of talking and some overlapping travel, we had a first date so great we closed down the restaurant. By our second date, I discovered we lived in the same apartment complex, which always felt like a wild coincidence to me. When our leases ended, we decided to move to the same complex but each with our own apartments, not wanting to rush things. Eventually, in 2020, we moved in together while working from home, and I realized we could spend nearly every moment together and still love each other’s company. Now, nearly six years later, we’re getting married! Shelby is an incredible woman—kind, considerate, and full of optimism, balancing my more pessimistic tendencies. She’s brought light into my life, amazing trips, delicious food, and, of course, our beloved cats. I can’t wait to marry her.

THE WEDDING PARTY

Best Man

Chase Threadgill

Chase and I have been inseparable since we were born. We've always been there for each other and shared pretty much everything. Same friends, same hobbies, same opinions and countless stories about growing up together. Speaking of funny stories, I keep a running list on my phone of Chase's greatest quotes, like the time he said, 'I guess when life gives you lemons, you just get two of 'em.' While he wasn't talking about us, I think it sums us up perfectly. Chase isn't just an incredible brother; he's my best friend and I can't wait to have him by our side on our wedding day.

Co-Best Man

Zack Hooper

Zack and I go way back - almost 15 years - to our first year at USM. For the first few weeks of school, we had this weird, unspoken ritual of silently walking the same path across the campus to our morning class a few yards apart. Eventually, we broke the silence, talking about our classes and video games. By that afternoon, we were battling it in Halo, and just like that, a lifelong friendship was born. I was honored to stand with Zack and Zoe on their wedding day and couldn't be happier to celebrate our next big chapter with them.

Groomsman

Drew Do

Drew and I also met in the art program at USM, and I remember we were friends pretty much right away. One of my favorite things about our friendship is how many interests we share: games, music, shows, keyboards, building watches...you name it! It's rare to find someone who shares as many hobbies with you as your twin brother. After college, I moved to Houston because Drew and some friends were liking it. Drew, Joseph, and I found a house to rent that was still "under renovation," which meant I slept on an air mattress in Drew's living room for six months! But after that, it was a great time. I was honored to be a part of Angela and Drew's wedding and am so excited he will be a part of ours.

Groomsman

Will Marttala

When Shelby and I first started dating, she mentioned her family loved board games, which sounded boring to me. What she didn't mention was that her brother, Will, is obsessed - and he has a library of unique and fun games. I was so stoked we weren't playing Scrabble or Monopoly. We also played D&D together every week for almost two years, and some of my favorite memories of Will involve him yelling about blue potions in an unintelligible Irish accent. Will has always been there for Shelby and I'm so excited to have him and Megan stand alongside us on our wedding day!

Groomsman

Josh Byrd

Josh and I also became friends back in college. Before we knew each other, I admired the incredible work he was doing in our layout class and thought, "Who is this guy, and how is he already this good?" We also sat next to each other in art history, and I remember he used to wear those Vibram toe shoes. Hahaha! Beyond his uniuqe footwear and talent, Josh is one of the kindest and most dedicated people I know. He's a world champion slalom racer, competed in Italy last year, and recently organized a national competition in Nashville. Despite his packed schedule, he's always there for his friends and family. I was stoked to stand by him and Kristy at their wedding and am honored to have him with us at ours!

Maid of Honor

Lilly Marttala

Lilly came into my life right before I turned five. The only thing I remember about when she was born was that Will and I stayed with my grandparents for a long time and she brought me THE BEST Barbie ice skating rink when she came home. That's when my love for her started and it's been a constant in my life ever since. I like to say Lilly is my five years younger twin. She brings sunshine everywhere she goes, and always gets my movie quote references like "I've never seen my husband's hidden will before!" Any time I've thought about my wedding she's always been standing right beside me and that's just where she'll be on Shannon and I's big day.

Matron of Honor

Katy McGrath

I met Katy during our freshman year at Maryville College. We were sitting outside talking and instantly turned to each other and said, "Are we the same person?" We lived in the same room for almost 4 years and were roommates for 8. Katy is the best friend anyone could ask for. She has been there for me through many phases of life like figuring out who we were in college, moving to the big city with big girl jobs, finding the loves of our lives, and beyond. I'm so happy she got married before me so I could have her as my Matron of Honor and second sister standing beside me.

Bridesman

Clay Talbert

Clay and I met in middle school. Our friendship was almost short-lived because he didn't invite me to his 8th grade birthday party since I was "not cool enough" (no you will never live this down). We didn't talk for a while after that fiasco but re-bonded playing golf for our high school team. We have some STORIES from our years of friendship and I think of Clay as my second brother. Of all my friends no one knows how to make me laugh or push my buttons harder than Clay. I'm so happy he'll be standing next to me cheering me on and making me cry.

Bridesmaid

Megan Marttala

I am lucky enough to call Megan my sister-in-law. Will definitely did Lilly and I a solid when he brought Megan into our family as she is the kindest, biggest-hearted, calm in the storm, wonderful person you will ever meet. Megan and I's fun fact is that we dated the same guy in high school (not at the same time, also sorry Meg). Meg and Shannon form the Big 2 in our family and keep each other sane in the midst of all the Marttala craziness. I was so happy to stand beside Meg as she married my brother and I'm honored to have her stand beside Shannon and I on our big day.

Bridesmaid

Erin Nunley

Out of everyone in our wedding party, Erin can say she's know me the longest. Being only a year younger than me we've shared a lot of milestones and awkward phases. We grew up spending summers, Thanksgivings and Christmases together at our Mimi's house. Since Mimi recently passed away we started a tradition to have a standing girl dinner every month. Erin has always had my back growing up and now being a cool librarian she has the best book recommendations (so if you're in the market for your next read hit her up). We've shared a lot of wonderful memories together and I'm glad she'll be by my side for this next one.

VISITING NASHVILLE

We love Nashville—and so do the tourists. Though it's busier than ever, its popularity has brought an array of great restaurants and places to stay. Here are some of our favorites:

STAY

  • Sonder - Kind of like Airbnb, but kind of like a hotel. One your best options for staying in Nashville.

  • Airbnb - An economical choice for larger groups and longer stays.

  • Virgin Hotels Nashville - We stayed here for one of our friend's weddings and loved it. Rumor has it this is where the bride and groom are staying for the night.

  • The Fairlane Hotel - Mid-century modern vibes off Broadway and always something to see & drink in the top floor penthouse.

  • Holiday Inn Goodlettsville - An economical option in-between the venue and downtown.

  • Hampton Inn & Suites Goodlettsville - An economical option in-between the venue and downtown.

  • Everything Else - Use Google Hotel search to narrow your dates, prices, and neighborhood.

EAT

No Reservations Required

  • Ladybird Taco - You'll catch us here almost every weekend eating Texas style breakfast tacos. Make sure to have our favorite, a #3 with cheese.

  • Bagel Shop - Our other frequent breakfast haunt and some of the best bagels and smear in town.

  • MacDougal's - Everyone knows Shelby loves her fried chicken and this is the best non-hot in town.

  • Edley's BBQ - My great great Uncle Edley's place, which also happens to be Taylor Swift's favorite BBQ in Nashville (and ours too)!

  • Pinky Ring Pizza - A little bit of a drive outside of the city but literally the best slices of pizza in town with the perfect ranch for dippies.

  • Five Points Pizza - Our go-to for a consistently good pie. Garlic knots not optional.

  • Little Hats Italian Market - If you need a little chicken parmesan sandwich in your life look no further.

  • Bill's Sandwich Palace - The menu changes every week, but it's never steered us wrong.

  • Cledis - Our favorite burger in town and they've got a great outdoor hangout space.

  • Redheaded Stranger - Just trust us on this one. The best tortillas and tots in town worth waiting in line for.

  • Black Dynasty - Our favorite pop-up ramen place turned restaurant.
